Therapist in Houston – Expertise in Mental Health and Addiction

Professional Background:

It’s nice to meet you! I am Mimi, a dedicated Therapist in Houston with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Texas Christian University (2015) and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Thomas (2019). With six years of experience in the field, I specialize in working with clients experiencing life adjustments, anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction.

My Approach To Therapy In Houston

As a Therapist in Houston, I employ a person-centered approach with a strong emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Additionally, I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that utilizes eye movements to help clients address issues like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety, and phobias. I believe in the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My philosophy is that changing behaviors or making thoughts more helpful can lead to overall improvement. My approach ensures that the client is always the primary focus, meeting them where they are and addressing any topic they bring up. My office is a judgment-free zone, providing a safe environment for clients to share their thoughts and feelings freely.

The Types of Therapy I Practice:

I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Solution-Focused Therapy. These therapies allow me to tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs, ensuring flexibility and effectiveness.

Who I Work With

I enjoy working with a variety of clients, including adolescents, teens, young adults, and adults. Common issues I help clients address include communication problems, establishing boundaries, and developing helpful coping strategies.

Personal Insights:

My journey into therapy began in high school with the aspiration to become a marriage counselor. After completing my undergraduate degree, I realized my passion for helping others couldn’t wait, so I pursued a graduate degree to become a therapist. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is watching my clients succeed in their daily lives.

Professional Development:

I stay current with developments in therapy and mental health by continuously learning and participating in professional groups and continuing education activities. I am an active member of an Accelerated Resolution Therapy group, which allows me to stay updated and ask questions.

Practice Philosophy:

Creating a safe and supportive environment is crucial to my practice. I am a good listener, establish trust, and ensure no conversation is off limits. The key to a successful therapeutic relationship is mutual comfort between the client and therapist. If a client feels I am not the right fit, there are no hard feelings—it’s important they find someone with whom they feel comfortable.

Personal Interests:

Born and raised in Houston, I enjoy spending my free time looking at or swimming in any body of water with my husband and two daughters. I also enjoy needlepointing and cheering for TCU and the Astros. My favorite type of food is TexMex, and I could eat queso and tortillas every day. To maintain my mental health, I engage in activities I enjoy and prioritize self-care.
