Sometimes life changes us in ways we never expected. Years ago I woke up one morning and came to the realization that although on the outside my family and I looked picture perfect; behind closed doors it was chaotic and dysfunctional. At the time I was a mother of a blended family of eight and everyone in our home was struggling in one way or another with something. Merely surviving was the best we all could hope for. Through therapy and a parenting support group my husband and I were able to repair our marriage as well as parent our children in a more compassionate loving manner where they felt heard, respected and validated.
Due to my personal and professional experiences my goal as a therapist is to create a safe space where clients can feel they are genuinely seen, heard, understood, and accepted. I believe that healing begins with understanding rather than judgment. Learning to have compassion for the different parts of ourselves, no longer hiding parts of ourselves in order to feel safe, move through life with curiosity instead of shame, and finally embrace and love who you were authentically meant to be. Together, we’ll work to understand your experiences, recover the strengths you already possess, and develop practical strategies that help you create lasting and meaningful lifestyle changes.
Over the past two decades, I’ve had the honor of working with adolescents and adults across acute inpatient hospitals, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and private practice. These experiences have given me the opportunity to support individuals and their families through some of life’s most difficult moments. My clinical experience includes working with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, substance use disorders, grief, trauma and PTSD. I had the privilege to do extensive therapeutic work with the VA and the Veterans they referred to who suffered from PTSD due to my extensive training in Cognitive Processing Therapy. Regardless of the diagnosis, I believe every person deserves to be understood beyond their symptoms and recognized for the strengths they already possess.
The work that is especially meaningful to me is helping clients and their families recover from addiction and trauma. While every client is unique, my approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and individualized treatment. I integrate my extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), EMD, Prolonged Exposure Therapy and psychodynamic principles to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and life experiences. Together, we identify patterns that are no longer serving you, process painful experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and develop practical strategies that create lasting change beyond the therapy office.
I always feel privileged when I am invited to hold a space for someone, and I never take that responsibility lightly. Whether we work together for a season or for a longer journey, my hope is that you leave each session feeling seen, heard, understood, supported, and empowered to continue building the life you deserve.
